Equal Housing Opportunity
Fair Housing
What the law protects, what we commit to, and where to go if anyone — including us — falls short.
Requesting an offer does not create a brokerage relationship or obligate you to sell. Any offer is subject to property evaluation, title review and a written agreement.
Our commitment
We conduct business in accordance with the Federal Fair Housing Act and the Texas Fair Housing Act. We do not discriminate in the sale, purchase, rental, financing or advertising of housing.
Protected characteristics
Under the federal Fair Housing Act it is unlawful to discriminate on the basis of:
- Race
- Colour
- Religion
- Sex, including sexual orientation and gender identity
- National origin
- Familial status, meaning families with children under 18, and pregnant women
- Disability
The Texas Fair Housing Act provides parallel protections at state level. Some Texas municipalities extend protection to further characteristics.
What this means in practice here
- We evaluate and purchase property based on the property, its condition and its market — not on who owns it or who lives nearby.
- We do not use language in our advertising that indicates a preference, limitation or discrimination, or that steers people toward or away from particular areas.
- Our city pages describe housing stock, property types and local market conditions. They do not characterise the people who live in an area, and they never use neighbourhood descriptions as a proxy for protected characteristics.
- We do not ask about protected characteristics on our forms, and we do not want that information.
Reasonable accommodation
If you need an accommodation to work with us — a different communication format, an interpreter, a different meeting arrangement — tell us and we will make it work. See also our accessibility statement.
If you believe you have experienced housing discrimination
You do not need our permission and you do not need to tell us first.
- US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity — complaints may be filed online, by telephone or by mail. hud.gov/fairhousing
- Texas Workforce Commission, Civil Rights Division, which enforces the Texas Fair Housing Act. twc.texas.gov
- Texas Real Estate Commission, for complaints about the conduct of a Texas licence holder, including us. trec.texas.gov
Complaints generally must be filed within one year of the alleged discriminatory act. Check with the agency for the current deadline.
